Should There Be A Men’s Atomic Watch?

Published by Author at 4:40 am under Watches

There has been a long-standing debate about whether or not manufacturers of consumer products are being a bit sexist in the way that they market their products.  Not every woman wants everything they own to be dainty and pink.  For many years manufacturers would try and adapt their products to a feminine version to try and increase sales to women.  Wristwatches were made smaller and slimmer, and there was even a cigarette specifically manufactured and marketed towards women.  The cigarette was slimmer than a regular cigarette and the marketing made it look like the independent woman smokes a cigarette specifically designed for women.  It didn’t take long for women to become offended at all of this and soon there was less of an emphasis on marketing products specifically at women.  However some things still separate themselves between women and men.  Wristwatches, for example, still come in many styles just for women and many styles that say they are for men only.  But when it comes to atomic watches can there be a men’s atomic watch and a women’s atomic watch?  It may be in the area of the atomic watch that men’s atomic watch may not necessarily be a good category.

The men’s atomic watch serves the same purpose as any other atomic watch.  The atomic watch was designed for a few different purposes.  First and foremost was the desire for perfect time keeping and satellite access for linking to the atomic clock and GPS systems.  People on the go and people that love the outdoors use an atomic watch.  They need to be rugged to handle the terrain and solid so that people can rely on them.  When you look at it that way can there really be a men’s atomic watch?

But The Marketing Beat Goes On

There is a certain amount of technology required to create an atomic watch and as small as some of it can be it still creates a good-sized watch.  In this way you could say that every atomic watch is a men’s atomic watch.  But to designate an atomic watch strictly a men’s atomic watch means that something would need to be sacrificed to make a women’s version and that seems to be just as detrimental of a marketing approach as cigarettes created for women.  The men’s atomic watch is something that everyone can use and as long as they are out there using it under stressful conditions then everyone will continue to use the men’s atomic watch.
